Challenge/Ranking System

I've been work on potential ranking systems for our group. Now by no means does any of the potential systems places anyone person in dominion over the other. It is simply a means to show, measure, and recognize individial achievements within the group and to encourage all of us to perhaps push a little further to achieve some cool. And they are entirely optional.

I want options on both. Which do you prefer and why? Do you like one, but feel it needs changes? Have a completely different idea? Let's hear it!

The first one is fairly strait forward and set up similarly to Eryndor's. It is a linear and would be same for everyone.

The second version is a branching ranking system. One line has a fighting focus and the other has a crafting and non-com activity focus.

I like the idea of having different types of ranks for different things. Less skillful combatants that are good at crafting could still have a cool title that someone who is a very skilled combatant would have, making title not fully dependent on physical ability. emoticon

Re: Challenge/Ranking System

So just glansing through this stuff... i have a bit of a concern with putting a time commitment restrain of more than a season with some of the stuff... Because of our collage base, some people may not find us till their 2nd year here and leave their 4th. They may stay in Dag but move to a different area. They may have their heart set on Title X but are restricted because they have to be around for more seasons that are possible for them. What do others think?

Re: Challenge/Ranking System

I haven't read this stuff over... But, here's a suggestion related to Deakon's comment.

Since we're a group of phoenix people, and the college base is represented by that (our numbers rise and fall each season), why don't we have faster earned titles? We could make it such that you can earn a title VERY fast, but at the end of each season (let's say August 1, for instance), you lose the title. Sorta like the phoenix burning out.

For folks who still have the stuff that got them certain titles (like making stuff), they might just be able to get the titles back (a benefit for sticking around), but the rest of the titles that have to do with battle prowess, etc, will have to be re-earned.

If you think about them like merit badges (or whatever), you might earn the (totally just made up) title of Battle-Lord for a particular season. So, you could get a patch, or whatever, for Battle-Lord 2011. You don't get that again in 2012 until you earn the Battle-Lord 2012 title.

Just a thought.

Re: Challenge/Ranking System

Hmm. How about this then. What if we keep the time requirement up to two full seasons and the reward for that can be received within the same semester (I guess at the end of the semester cook out). After that point, what place they achieve will be completely up to how fast they move through the requirements. What about that?

I do like the idea of one or two independent awards given at the end of each semester though. Not sure if I like the entire thing resetting every semester, but having the alternative rewards might be nice. Maybe an in chapter tournament or something?

Re: Challenge/Ranking System

Do your "seasons" last a year or a semester? It's tricky being around so much college stuff to differentiate the two.

The only negative thing i noticed when reading through it (as previously pointed out) was the mandatory time constraint per achievement. I see people getting frustrated that they would have to wait 11 months before gaining the next one. Just a thought.

I like Cordane's idea about possibly resetting every season. With winners changing a lot (realtively) it would keep people's interests perked. Plus it would also give motivation for the losers of said tournament to get their skills honed for the nest season!
