In other news, next weekend I'm going to get together a list of everyone going and who's doing what and blah blah blah. If anyone can't make it to practice, write here whether you're going, what you're bringing, and all that other nonsense.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Bill Mock)Mon, 07 Nov 2011 16:37:46 +0000 Re: Winter War 2011https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p769,from=rss#post769https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p769,from=rss#post769Yeah man. We'll help ya out. Since you've never been there before, let me go ahead and point out that it's behind the Red *Something* Horse Ranch. You have to drive down their driveway, past the house, farm, and horse-training stuff, to a hut where the woods start. This hut is "troll." Troll is the facility where your dues are paid. You pay, sign the release (like we have at practice), and get your event tag. Then, you're able to move in to the camp. Phone connection dies pretty hard out there, but try your best. Worst-case scenario, ask for Cordane. If you find Cu Sith (pronounced "Koo Shee"), then they'll know me and know where I am. If no one you find knows me, ask for Eryndor. They'll welcome you if you claim Deakon and Sidia. They'll then help you find the Canaur camp.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Cordane)Mon, 07 Nov 2011 16:23:37 +0000 Re: Winter War 2011https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p768,from=rss#post768https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p768,from=rss#post768Would whoever is there when I get there (estimating around 12:00 to 1:00 AM) be able to help set up the tent with Steely, Charlee, and I? Grab a sack of oranges - they last quite awhile, they're easier to grab and eat, and they're full of orange juice (you'll need the hydration). Also, I usually bring two of the large bags of beef jerky. The protein works wonders, but the salt requires you to eat it ONLY after battles. Don't try it before or you'll dry yourself out while fighting. Additionally, I bring beer for night-time consumption. Not much nutritional value, but it'll fill you up if you drink enough!! Oh, and also there's a Wal-Mart about 15 minutes down the road. But!! If you would rather have actual COOKED food, just bring money. For pretty cheap, you can buy actual hot food (to the tune of quesadillas, sausage biscuits, and hamburgers, depending on time of day) from the on-site kitchen. The hosts of the event own a large horse ranch. The area where we fight is behind this ranch, and upon it sits a large barn. The barn houses their kitchen for these events (and it's also where weapons-checking is performed). Most of the food can be purchased from the food for, as I said, very cheap. I think most items are around $2 to $3, depending, and they'll fill you up. They also serve coffee for us addicts. If you brought about $25, you could probably eat like a king (or, at least, a king who is eating from a barn-kitchen-diner). Generally, I combine the two. I bring my own stuff, and I eat from the kitchen. Honestly, having someone serve you a hot breakfast is THE BEST EVAR (!!) when you're wandering around groggy in the cold morning. And last thing: Buy and bring your own 24-pack of water bottles. You'll thank yourself. I'll have my own 24-pack. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Bill Mock)Sun, 06 Nov 2011 17:58:54 +0000 Re: Winter War 2011https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p764,from=rss#post764https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p764,from=rss#post764There is a good chance i'll be able to make Winter War After all. What's the food situation at Winter War like? I know that there's a feast on the last night but what about lunch and dinner on all the other non-feast times? I foresee the bringing of my own food but how much should I be bringing? Junk/snack food or three days worth of meals? Just curious because my dad was thinking about bringing up a cooktop for camping when he came up for parent's weekend and I wasn't sure if I'd need it or not.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Bill Mock)Tue, 27 Sep 2011 18:28:05 +0000 Re: Winter War 2011https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p565,from=rss#post565https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p565,from=rss#post565Hey Meager, You guys should leave Thursday! Plus the traffic is FANTASTIC that early in the morning. Seriously, give it some thought. Also, VERY good call by Sam there. It is COLD during those nights up near Atlanta in November. Make SURE you bring lots of blankets and things for your tents (else you will freeze during the 28 degree nights - not good for us Florida folks).
