I. Want. These.

Saw these and am 99% certain they are illegal according to Dagorhir rules but am wondering if I could modify them so that they were legal.

What I was thinking I could do would be to dull the points so that they aren't so pointy and would instead be more rounded (so that they might be as sharp as the back end of a sharpie?)

Suggestions/love for the bracers?

LOTS of rivets on this piece, but ultimately not very challenging to build. You'll want to use a thinner leather. Maybe something like a 5-8 oz (tops), since you're layering so much.

Additionally, since you'd want them custom made, you should consider coloration. Those are black on black, so from a distance, they look pretty normal. You only appreciate the spikey fins when you're close enough to see them. Perhaps consider a black base with red fins, or maybe the reverse. Anything that isn't black on black will make those really POP!

And I know you may be thinking how black on black looks "so awesome" etc... but since when has Meager ever gone for the Batman look? Get some fierce colors in there, man!!

One more thing: Don't use tie straps unless you're REALLY good at tying straps. Use buckles. They're easy to put on and take off yourself, and they stay in place!

You could buy those, and then tack down all the individual points using brads. Then the only one you would have to shave down would be the last one that rests on your forearm. Oh and try and get bracers with straps vs. laces. Mine were crazy hard to keep on during combat, Cordane is currently attaching straps to mine.

Excellent ideas all around, maybe I'll commission them from someone. And Cordane, the guy that makes these has one just like what you described here:

That guy makes some clean-looking stuff. I like what he has, even though most of it is fairly generic stuff. As a commercial leathworker, you'd want to make items that appeal to the broadest target audience. Just the same, some of his conventional approaches are worth stealing. emoticon

Also, bear in mind that everything he makes incoporates pop-style rivets. His pieces appear to be mostly for renaissance fairs, etc. Show stuff. For real combat, you might want to consider something stronger - either heavy lacing or copper rivets.

I prefer the copper rivets. Once installed, they never come out.

Edit: I think Deakon was looking to score a commission or two. He might be interested in working something like this for you.
