Re: Making Armor
Technically, there is no rule for the thickness requirements on a leather "mask". Key word there is mask. If you are just going for the look, as implied by Cordane, then you don't have to meet armor requirements. The drawback however, is that it will not count as armor. So javelins, arrows and rocks can still be aimed at your noggin!

Re: Making Armor
Meager has a point about the thickness of my leather, but I think something could be worked with it regardless. I'm thinking something akin to conjoined strips that would leave spacing that would be too small to allow projectiles. This would be both pliable and effective for armor, as well as being lighter. The spacing, if you wanted, could be covered with cosmetic leather or cloth to achieve a badass appearance.
The amount of materials I'm thinking to construct something like I'm thinking would cost no more than 30 bucks I think. I'd like to measure your face to get the spacing right though.
You still want something symmetrical? And just the mask itself, right?

Re: Making Armor
I don't fully understand what you were trying to say Cordane, but Yes meager that is pretty much what I am going for. So i'm guessing I'm going to need 8 oz leather and two 2 oz layers

Re: Making Armor
I've doodled a quick bit of what I was thinking about. I don't have an easy way to upload it here though (website restrictions at work, etc). I'll try to get it on here later.

Re: Making Armor
What I was thinking resembles a hockey mask, somewhat - at least the skeleton does... The whitespace can be covered with leather or whatever, but I was saying that the spaces between the leather isn't large enough to allow a projectile through, so getting blasted in the face with an arrow would be fine - despite the holes.
The spaces would mean that the mask can be made using strips of leather, rather than a full piece. The strips would be more pliable than a complete "sheet" of leather.
I took two photos, hoping that one or the other would better show off what I was trying to display with the doodle. Obviously, my doodling isn't nearly as good as my leatherwork.

Re: Making Armor
Similar idea then, yeah. Making just a mask would be possible with this style.
Shogun was talking about playing a fallen paladin persona, so I assume that something fairly sinister would be preferred. A typical jawbone-style might not be enough to fully convey that purpose.
Most people (perhaps due to pop culture) are unnerved by the image of the "hockey mask" when it's altered slightly.
