Re: Smithing Session
Sounds good, assuming that will reach enough people. I'll type up some text this evening telling people what they need to bring (supplies or $$) so that everyone can come prepared.

Re: Smithing Session
Okay, two things:
1 - I probably can't do Saturday; is there ANY way we can move this to Sunday instead?
2 - Here's what people need:
Swords
PADDING
-One roll of blue Ozark Trail camping mat foam from Wal-Mart
-Part of a roll of blue Gold's Gym exercise/yoga mat (split this with others, it's for stabbing tips and one mat is enough for like 50 swords)
CORE
-About 3' of 1/2" white PVC pipe (for a blue)
-At least 4' of 3/4" white PVC pipe (for a red)
COUNTERWEIGHT
-A 6" hex bolt, 1/2" dia. for blue, or 8" x 3/4" dia. for red
ADHESIVES
-Strapping tape (the clear tape with the white fibers running through it
-Duct tape (the cheap Nashua kind is fine)
-Black athletic tape
-Double-sided (carpet) tape
-DAP original formula
COVER
-Trigger/poplin fabric in whatever color you want (I recommend dark colors)
-Sturdy thread
Shields
PADDING
-3 or 4 rolls (depending on shield type) of blue Ozark Trail camping mat foam from Wal-Mart
GRIP
-2' or so of 1/2" PVC, for a centergrip
-some scraps of trigger or duck cloth fabric and some wide velcro, for a strap shield
ADHESIVE
-Duct tape
-Super 77 spray adhesive
-DAP contact cement
-Gorilla glue
COVER
-Trigger/poplin fabric
-Soft and/or elastic cord
Now, you won't need an entire can of DAP for one sword, or even for one shield, and one sword will use maybe 1/3 of a roll of foam, not to mention the tiny portion of the yoga mat that the stabbing tips will use, so I recommend you arrange amongst yourselves for one person to get supplies and then divide the costs and materials amongst yourselves.
In addition to the above-listed supplies, which will all be consumed in making the weapon, you will also need these tools:
-A long measuring stick or carpenter's square (gotta cut straight!)
-A knife with new, SHARP blades (the break-away kind or the interchangeable blade kind...something with replaceable blades)
Anyway, sorry I can't make Saturday, but I can provide a lot of detailed advice at practice Sat. if we can't reschedule for Sunday.
