I LOVE your enthusiasm for an camp out event... But we are just not there yet. Eryndor did not put on their fist camp out event until many years after their existence and this was a co-hosted event with Middle March. (look them up, good group of groups in IN) With that said, lets get into the mind set of day events. Yes it will be tough to encourage other groups to drive 4 hours to come fight at event. However, I KNOW we can achieve that. How you ask. By accurate planning and informative advertizement. Lask was right about how it is not all fun and games when it comes to hosting events. However from personal experiences, I know that if we get enough people committed, we can work in shifts and some can still get some fighting done. With a few hours of planning and commitment from the group I know we can plan out a nice event. I have a few ideas rolling around in my head and would be willing to share my experience with those will to give the commitment to Canaur. Eryendor didn't get on the map just for being some really great fighters in nice garb. We were known to put on some of the best events in our area and people traveled the distance to take part in it. So I want to know now, Who's with me?nondisclosed_email@example.com (Deakon Avory)Sat, 17 Mar 2012 22:26:17 +0000 Re: Hosting our own event?https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p1114,from=rss#post1114https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p1114,from=rss#post1114Just an update. I've called several places with no luck, but many of those places refereed me to other places. I will be calling them tomorrow.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lasciel Caphra)Thu, 15 Mar 2012 18:13:55 +0000 Re: Hosting our own event?https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p1102,from=rss#post1102https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p1102,from=rss#post1102What I mean by that is if the place does not have access we need to rent portapotties. I did not mean a place with out them entirely. I should have been more clear. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lasciel Caphra)Tue, 13 Mar 2012 15:37:14 +0000 Re: Hosting our own event?https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p1101,from=rss#post1101https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p1101,from=rss#post1101quote:Lasciel Caphra wrote: Things that we would like but dont need, is access to bathrooms, allows drinking, and perhaps has kitchen or great hall area that could be used. This is much bigger than you realize. If you're going to host an event over the span of days, having access to bathrooms is required. Beyond that, a kitchen/food vendor is STRONGLY suggested - otherwise, you'll have to make SURE that folks bring enough provisions to last for the entire time. Finally, if people are sitting around a campfire, they WILL drink. You WILL NOT stop them. Having a place that allows this is basically required. The Great Hall would be nice, but really you just need a back-up plan in case of severe weather.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Cordane)Tue, 13 Mar 2012 15:32:35 +0000 Re: Hosting our own event?https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p1098,from=rss#post1098https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p1098,from=rss#post1098I do not believe we can camp there.I will call and find out to confirm.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lasciel Caphra)Tue, 13 Mar 2012 01:44:41 +0000 Re: Hosting our own event?https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p1097,from=rss#post1097https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p1097,from=rss#post1097I ran some numbers and sent some links to meager already. There is a place in Tallahassee called Dog Lake, it has enough room for our purposes, and good grounds to camp on. You can rent this spot from the city for $100. http://www.talgov.com/parks/fieldres.cfm<-- This is how we reserve room and locate the best area for what we're doing  All we need from there is restroom facilities which are a $150 per unit per day (this is an estimate and I will be double checking and researching more thoroughly.) Tallahassee is also well know for it's affordable hotel and liquor prices which will attract a lot of people. If we can raise the money to do this we can promote it at the Next Ides and Winter War. May is a great time of year to fight in Tally I hope this helps and I really look forward to doing this! nondisclosed_email@example.com (Shogunate)Tue, 13 Mar 2012 00:41:02 +0000 Re: Hosting our own event?https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p1096,from=rss#post1096https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p1096,from=rss#post1096You responded to Duckie more quickly than I lol.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Bill Mock)Mon, 12 Mar 2012 22:58:52 +0000 Re: Hosting our own event?https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p1095,from=rss#post1095https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p1095,from=rss#post1095We really dont need people to come up that far for a day battle in order for us to get practice for events. It is well within reason that we can do both day battles and a camp out.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lasciel Caphra)Mon, 12 Mar 2012 22:56:10 +0000 Re: Hosting our own event?https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p1093,from=rss#post1093https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p1093,from=rss#post1093The only problem with hosting a day battle is that we would only be able to maybe draw North Florida Floridians and not Central Florida Floridians. While there are lots of awesome fighters in Jacksonville/Pensacola, there are a lot more fighters in the lower parts of the state. A campout would have enough of an appeal to get people to come give it a shot. No one wants to drive four hours to fight for two and drive fours hours again (except for maybe Magnus).nondisclosed_email@example.com (Bill Mock)Mon, 12 Mar 2012 22:41:22 +0000 Re: Hosting our own event?https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p1092,from=rss#post1092https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p1092,from=rss#post1092This wont be for atleast a year or more from now. We can start doing day battles in the mean time. This is our first event. It's a lot to handle with just the number I suggested and in the grand scheme of things, most of us are still new to the game. On that same note, this being our first event there is no precedence showing that we have proven we can run a good event that will be worth the drive. I know we can, we have to show others we can. That and it's hard enough finding a place I described above. If we get lucky and find a bigger one then great. For right now that is the minimum of what we need. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lasciel Caphra)Mon, 12 Mar 2012 22:16:03 +0000 Re: Hosting our own event?https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p1085,from=rss#post1085https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p1085,from=rss#post1085Don't aim so low. I would aim for at room for at least 100 people in case units like Atlantis, WotS groups, and GTG come in addition to the non affiliated fighters of Florida.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Bill Mock)Mon, 12 Mar 2012 21:40:54 +0000 Hosting our own event?https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p1084,from=rss#post1084https://bdagorhiroftallahassee.runboard.com/p1084,from=rss#post1084There has been a lot of talk and enthusiasm about us hosting our own event. There has been enough of it That I think we should get the ball rolling. Something that you need to keep in mind is hosting an event is not the same as going to and participating in an event. It's work. We wont be fighting a whole lot, if at all. What most of us will be doing is troll, security, Heraldry, weapons check, errand running, night life organizing, cleaning, etc. It is work but it has the potential to be fulfilling work within the game. And I think we can pull off a great one.   Now that that is out of the way, the first thing we need to discuss is location. I've been looking for one for a while with no success so we need help. We need a location that will allow a campfire/s, space enough for 30-60 people to camp, and access to water. Things that we would like but dont need, is access to bathrooms, allows drinking, and perhaps has kitchen or great hall area that could be used. Post info you got nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lasciel Caphra)Mon, 12 Mar 2012 21:07:41 +0000
