Officer meeting 07/29/12

(Because not all our fighters are in town, or country! If anyone has stuff they want presented at officers meetings but can't make it out when we have them, just reply to this thread and I'll stick it on the agenda.)

Minutes from 07/29/12 meeting

-Create and send formal, handmade invites to other groups for Canaur-hosted events. It would help get our name out there and possibly garner interest and respect for ourselves as a realm.

-At the next meeting (September 2nd), draw up a timeline of which battles we are attending, which events we plan to create and host, and brainstorm exactly what we want from each event.

-September 16th is the Canaur Cookout at Tom Brown Park. Weapons check begins at 9 AM until main field fighting, which starts at 11 AM.
-As far as Hunger Games is concerned, Gwyn (with Duckie) and Shogun will collaborate for a proper advertising push to gain attention, interest, and ultimately a larger, more enthusiastic group of participants. This involves polling players from the last game on their experience and modifying as necessary. Attention will be paid to the budget, and Shogun and Higure will work together to cut the initial start up costs. [I will be drafting up a questionnaire for past participants to be emailed and hopefully I’ll receive some good input]

-Higure and/or Gwyn will speak with someone from student government about receiving funding from FSU. There are travel funds and also “scholarships” to help us attend big events, so we need to find out as much information on these things as possible.
-We plan to encourage newer fighters to get garb (hopefully quality garb) to wear to practice and events. It adds to morale and helps Canaur seem like more of a cohesive unit than just a bunch of people beating each other with sticks (which isn’t all that bad in the first place, honestly). Possibly add benefits/perks for new players who acquire garb and/or personal weapons.

-As far as info packets, we agreed to sell a bundle with a tabard, single blue, and Canaur story book for $20. I personally would like to ask our newer fighters how they’d feel about that, but we’ve already invested in fabric and have most the materials for swords, so it’s really just to appease my inner PR rep.
-We as a realm have decided to encourage non-combatants who contribute to Canaur in any form they so choose. We would like to have a few more, and Gwyn and Duckie will advertise that side of Dagorhir accordingly.

-Also, Meager's thin swords were taken off the field until they comply with Dagorhir rule [sign in to see URL], regarding weapons safety and the occurrence of bruises and injuries of unarmored individuals. (I personally think that when those swords find striking surface nirvana [not too little, not too much] they will be excellent weapons. Til then, we're shelving them.)

Re: Officer meeting 07/29/12

Thanks for posting this. I think the hand-made invites would be a good idea. But, we want to research how to effectively "age" the paper to look like old parchment, and of course, we need someone with excellent handwriting (mine is decent when I try).

A time line of events we're attending is another really good idea. This needs to be fleshed out and well maintained. I think it should be added to the website.

Regarding that, I think the website might need an update. I'm not the one who is qualified to do that though. Everything that was initially in that noob packet needs to be on the website (who we are, story, geography, races, factions, bylaws, link to forum, link to min Dag page, links to resources). Also, it should include a list of upcoming events, both ours and away. Also, it should list what to bring to events (from bare necessities to the full boy scout).

Regarding the noob packet, I think it's an excellent idea. I also think it could be the start of a cool progression. Just brainstorming here, but if the first packet gets me a tabard, sword, and story elements, what can I get for 50 bucks? Or, whatever price. Just thinking in terms of getting garbed up via buying package deals from Canaur. Say you want to go Jadian. Pay for the first level packet, and Lask will help you to get suited in the Jadian motif. Just spitballing.

Also, you don't have to ask if it's okay to sell something to someone (that is, asking new players if they're cool with the noob packets). You just make it available and see who buys it. Either it works or it doesn't. I think it'll work fine. Just make it available and of decent quality. I realize the desire to democratize the process, but think about Canaur more as a business where this is concerned. To make money, make the product and sell it.
