So I love 'test 3' and made a few changes to it that I would like to put up to vote on. I think this is a strong symbol and would do the group a lot of justice! Thank you Laskiel for so many great concepts!

I would also like to vote on Canunaûr as the chapter's name

(sorry the image is so large!)

Honestly, I'm not a fan of any of them. I'm sorry to say that really, and I'll happily submit some others. The problem I see with using the crescent is that that particular shape is almost universally recognized as being identified with Islam. While I personally admire the faith, I don't want to wear a symbol that might be confused with it. I feel that might be offensive to some, especially as I am not particularly Islamic at all (in culture, behavior, or faith). The scimitar also has references to Arabian culture, which could be construed to be Islamic.

I would suggest symbols that are less culturally binding. Animal logos are great for this. Is there already a "phoenix" group, for example?

With having been to Ragnarok and seen national groups, this symbol is nothing out of the ordinary, and is done well.

I'm going to respectfully disagree with Cordane here; first, Cordane is quite educated - I would say that most of Dag fall under his education level, and would not recognize the crescent symbol as anything other than a crescent behind a sword.

Additionally, we have groups that have a very traditional Muslim look. They act respectfully and are honorable fighters, which translates that their personae are not to be taken in any manner of disrespect.

I do have to comment that I don't care for the color scheme though - it looks too much like a group from South Carolina (the combo of colors) and I would like this group to be a bit more individual.

Just my thoughts.

Pardon me for being a little vague.

The crescent is fine. However, it DOES represent Islam just as a cross represents Christianity. While many folks might not make a connection to that, some people will. The people who especially would would be those who actively worship.

I don't want there to be any sort of confusion about who we are or what we represent just because of a design concept in an emblem. Personally, I do not behave as a faithful muslim would, and I don't want there to be any offense taken by someone who might think this emblem relates to Islam.

As such, regardless of the final decision, I will NOT wear a crescent emblem. I will also not wear a cross, yin-yang, ankh, or any other symbol that has obvious, real-world religious applications. I don't want to offend any of you by rejecting ideas, but, even moreso, I don't want to insult strangers or other players by representing (intentionally or not), offensively, a group to which I do not belong

Additionally, I think for the purposes of application to weapons, armor, and shields, the emblem should be color-independent. Preferably, it should be a stencil so that spray-paint is an option. Stencils and spray-paint could be applied as any color.

Re: Pick and vote here

Hi all!
And now for something completely different...I was really excited by the phoenix idea, so I made up a series of 17 symbols based on this that may address some of the concerns brought up in the posts. We could enclose these in a circle, add our name below, etc. Several are below; the whole series can be found
here. Some benefits to these or similar designs:

1) The phoenix is a fairly universal mythological symbol, so (unlike other images) would not be associated with any particular religious/ethnic group.

2) Correspondingly, the symbol could equally represent all types of races/characters that would eventually come to populate our world.

3) It goes very well with the numerous fire-themed names that have been proposed for our chapter.

4) Since the group currently (and probably for quite awhile) will consist mostly of semi-transitory college students, the idea of the group being periodically reborn seems appropriate.

5) The design could be made into a stencil, and thus would work just as well in/on any color.

6) To my knowledge, it would be the only phoenix-symbol chapter in Dagorhir.

Cheers!

I think that's very clever! Also, I like the first one you posted. The other two are fine, but maybe too simple. The first one would work great as a stencil too!
